Natural remedies are a great way to keep asthma symptoms under control. Unlike medicine, these types of remedies for asthma are safe and have no side effects, which makes them ideal.

Below are some great asthma remedies to try out, I have first named the ones I usually stick to, and ones that were recommended by my family. I also researched which remedies are popular in different countries, and listed those as options.

essential oils for asthma

Apply eucalyptus oil, cinnamon oil or clove oil on the chest and back This will help improve breathing. It is important that the essential oils are mixed with a base oil - sesame would be best for people with dry or infection type of asthma. Mustard is good for people with the type of congestion-asthma.

In addition to the above herbal recipes, several countries have their own herbs and natural remedies and treatments to treat and control asthma:

Peru

According to natives in Peru, the juice of the Peruvian balsam tree "Cinchona" is very effective in asthma. The syrup is reddish brown in color and is known to be of value for the treatment of respiratory disorders.

United Kingdom

onion for asthma

The British use a syrup made from thin onion slices soaked in honey. If ingested 3-4 times a day, it improves the asthmatic condition. The other "British" remedy is the bark and leaves of the Ginkgo tree which is known to be effective for allergic asthma and sneezing.

Egypt

Juniper berries for asthma

Egyptian natural therapists recommend the regular consumption of figs, grapes, or juniper berries as an effective asthma remedy.

China

tea for asthma

Chinese use tea leaves that include theophylline, which is an effective herbal asthma reliever. They also stir-fry ephedra roots in honey and mix these with apricot kernels as an effective asthma remedy.

Australia & Malaysia

eucalyptus for asthma

In these regions Eucalyptus oil is used to provide relief to patients suffering from respiratory diseases and asthma. The leaves contain rutin, a bioflavonoid that can reduce the inflammation in the airways. You can leave a handful of eucalyptus leaves (fresh or dried) in boiling water for 20 minutes. You must inhale the vapors or drink it in small doses. When you drink it as a tea, dilute it with more water before use.

Greece and Rome

vinegar for asthma

Ancient Greeks and Romans used garlic, pepper, cinnamon and vinegar as effective remedies for asthma. According to them these pungent foods stimulate watery secretions in the nose and respiratory tract, thereby helping to clean clogged parts. Other traditional remedies, such as freshwater fish, parsley, mint, watercress, fenugreek, radish, pears, raisins, or barley are also widely used. Many of these foods make the mucus from an inflammation of the airways thinner, and open up airways which increases the ability of the respiratory tract to function properly.

The Greeks also recommend a tea of fennel seeds, which not only provides assistance regarding the symptoms of asthma, but also is beneficial for many other respiratory ailments. Fennel contains rutin, and vitamins and minerals, including calcium and potassium.

Europe and Canada

coffee for asthma

In Europe and Canada drinking two cups of strong coffee is recommended as a standard solution for an asthmatic attack. It is said to help within 2 hours. But, in order to make it work properly, the coffee must be used only in a controlled manner as a medicine, in order to prevent an attack, or to relieve it. Too much coffee will trigger an immunity to its effects.
